Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
